Cooper Findlay is a passionate advocate for justice with a degree in History and Spanish from the University of Oregon. His studies in the Global Studies and Languages Department significantly enhanced his ability to serve as a lawyer and public defender. Driven by a commitment to fight for the underdog, he has dedicated his career to providing hope and advocacy for those facing the harsh realities of the criminal justice system, including death penalty defense. His professional journey includes presenting to the United Nations on human rights issues and lobbying for international resolutions to prevent children from being incarcerated with adults. Representing over 100 clients annually, his experiences as a Deputy Public Defender in multiple California counties and in Louisiana, have shaped his resolve to bring about systemic change in the pursuit of justice. Cooper is fluent in both spoken and written Spanish. Some of his notable achievements include the Dean's Scholarship Academic Award and Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship (Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Madrid, Spain). His education and experiences continue to fuel his dedication to advocacy, motivating him to fight effectively for the community and drive substantial systemic change.
